Important information about your Format custom domain name, as well as details about how to manage it.
Buying a domain
Format is a reseller of Tucows domains. You can purchase a domain for $20 USD via your Settings > Domain and Email area. If you are a Pro Yearly or Pro Plus Yearly subscriber, this fee is waived for the first year. Renewing the domain name for subsequent years is $20 USD per year. Domain renewals and purchases are non-refundable.
Format can only host the following TLDs: .com, .net, .org, .ca, .xyz, or .me. If your desired domain uses a different TLD, you will need to purchase it through a third-party domain host and connect it to your site using DNS records. You can view our domain connection guides for more information.
Please note: you can only register one domain name per website. It is not possible to register multiple domain names for a single site on Format.
Changing a domain's WHOIS information
Because Format provides domains through a third party, there is no user-facing area to update your domain's registrant info. Examples of domain registrant (WHOIS) information include the registrant's name, address, email, and phone number.
If you need to update this information, please reach out to our Success team via live chat or email at info@format.com.
Managing a domain's DNS records
Because Format provides domains through a third party, there is no user-facing DNS panel. Examples of DNS records include CNAMEs for subdomains, MX records to connect email services, and more.
If you need to update this information, please reach out to our Success team via live chat or email at info@format.com.
Managing a domain's renewal status
Domain renewal settings can be managed within the Settings > Domain and Email area. You can set a domain to autorenew or autoexpire. If your domain is set to autorenew but the renewal fails, you will need to contact our Success team via live chat or email so that we can manually renew the domain for you.
Please note that this domain renewal must be made within 30 days after a domain expires. Domains cannot be renewed after that point as they enter a 40-day holding period. If you are late to renew your domain and your domain has entered this holding period, you will need to wait until the holding period has ended, and then repurchase your domain.
You will receive email notices directly from our domain partner leading up to your domain's renewal, as well as emails after your domain expires. These emails are to notify you of your upcoming (or overdue) domain renewal.
